the BIGGEST needle I've ever seen!!!!

As a few of you know, I had my triple screen blood test done last week. Well, the results came back abnormal and they indicated there might be a chromosome problem with the baby. Ugg. So we had to go down to Balboa (San Diego Naval Hospital) this morning meet with a genetic counselor and a perinatologist for a Level II ultrasound and amniocentesis. I'm sure anyone who knows me knows how deathly afraid of needles I am so hearing that I needed to get an amnio nearly killed me. Do you know the size of needle that is involved and that they jab it directly into my belly!!!! It's been all I can think about since we got the news last Wednesday. The doctors were 1 hour and 45 minutes late getting us into our appointent which really didn't help my anxiety level much. Mostly I just sat around thinking of needles. The ultrasound was wonderful. The baby is still a GIRL! Not that we had any doubt:) All her measurements look normal and now we just wait for the amnio results. The amnio was terrifying but the needle part only lasted a minute or two. It was a big stick then lost of pressure and what felt like a bad side ache as she drew out several tablespoons of anmiotic fluid. I'm just glad the baby didn't kick the needle or anything like that. Oh, after the amnio was over, I was told to go directly to the lab for a blood draw then back to them for a SHOT! Glad I didn't know this morning that I was going to have to get stabbed 3 times or Dave might have had to force me into the car kicking and screaming! Since there were only a few tears shed during the whole experience, Dave bought me ice cream on the way home:)I'm happy to announce that I survived the whole ordeal and am home resting now. Georgia stayed with her little boyfriend Jack and Miss Stephanie. I hear she did great and even got a 2 hour nap in. Thank Stephanie! I'll post a new ultrasound photo tonight.
